Whatever shades you decide upon will influence not only the flowers and décor, but your dress and what your fiancé wears, your bridesmaid dresses and groomsmen suits, the invitations, the wedding favours, the food…every tiny aspect has the potential to be impacted by this one choice – so you’d better get it right!
With so many colours to choose from and so many ways in which it needs to fit, selecting the perfect shade combo can be challenging. It needs to go much further than just being your day-to-day favourite colours as this won’t necessarily fit in with your wedding theme or venue. You need to find tones that look great in all areas, that are flattering and that complement each-other like a dream.
Fortunately, as with all things wedding, there are annual trends to help you make the best choice. For 2018, there are a few palettes that have taken the lead on the bridal runway that you are going to just love. For those of you feeling brave enough to choose something bold, we’re looking at the Pantone Colour of the Year: Ultraviolet. For the Brides-to-be who want to go for femininity and timeless romance, its got to be the Blush & Grey combo that never seems to go out of favour…[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Find the PERFECT Bridal Hair & Makeup to go with Your Colour Scheme…” txt_align=”center” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”View Galleries” btn_size=”lg” btn_align=”center” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.weddingmakeupandhair.com%2Fphoto-galleries%2F%3Fterm%3D11%26orderby%3Ddate%26order%3DDESC|||”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1521402027377{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

Ultra-Violet
You’ve probably already started to see this year’s Pantone Colour of the Year taking over pretty much everywhere and the wedding industry is no exception.
Bold and undeniably beautiful, this vibrant shade is perhaps one that you might not have considered in the past, but now that we’re being presented with its stunning potential here, there and everywhere, it’s time to have a re-think.
Said to communicate “originality, ingenuity and visionary thinking that points us towards the future”, Ultra-violet is a wonderful choice if you’re looking for a wedding colour theme that’s more than just aesthetically pleasing, but inspirational too and a nod towards the amazing things that are yet to come as you make your way into the adventure of married life.
Laurie Pressman, Vice President of the Pantone Colour Institute says “The Pantone Colour of the Year has come to mean so much more than ‘what’s trending’ in the world of design; it’s truly a reflection of what’s needed in our world today.”

It is clear to anyone that ultra-violet is a pretty strong hue, which when you’re thinking about using it as an overall wedding theme could end up being a little over-powering. Make it work for your big day by:
- Using ultra-violet more as a splash of incredible purple accents alongside white and maybe even gold if you fancy embracing the decadent side (and why not – it is your wedding day after all!).
- Finding it in nature. As shown in THE BLACK TUX mood board, ultra-violet is present in the natural world in the form of some really gorgeous flowers. Using blooms to blend this bright colour into your wedding day, alongside bridesmaid dresses, table dressing or anywhere else you’d like to throw it in can help to lend a more romantic feel than a synthetic one.
- Embracing your fairytale princess! There’s no way around it – the ultra-violet colour theme is kind of a magical one and very definitely girly. I love the golden filled macaroons shown here on the mood board and can’t help but feel as though there’s something a bit Disney or maybe even ‘Mad Hatters Tea Party’ about them.

Lilac & Green
If you love the idea of integrating purple into your wedding day but don’t want to go full on ultra-violet, how about blending lilac and greens together instead for and ethereal woodland feel?
This is just so perfect for the summer bride who has chosen to take the party outside. Save on décor costs by using what nature has already given you in your outdoor venue and brighten it up a bit with shots of varying lilac tones.
One big plus side to having two contrasting colours as your palette is that you have the option of mixing and matching your bridesmaid dresses. It’s so hard to please everyone with a single colour, so this gives your girls the chance to choose their favourite which might end up easing unwanted tension![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2983″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1521478551924{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1521480303696{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

If full-on ultra-violet is a bit much for you but you’re a fan of purple, toning it done and blending it in with subdued nature tones is the perfect alternative. Lilac and green is one colour theme we’ll be seeing lots of in 2018. Make it work by:
- Sticking to just two block colours can get a bit boring, so liven it up by using a wide variety of tones that fall into the remit of lilac and green.
- Get your guy wearing ‘stone’ or ‘oatmeal’ for his suit shade. This is not your usual tux, but for an outside summer wedding it can be the perfect solution when darker colours just seem a bit heavy. It works really well with lilac and green and you’ll look elegant yet fresh as you walk down the aisle together.
- Keep your bridal makeup natural. Just because you’re going for a colourful theme doesn’t mean you need to go for colourful makeup. In fact, with all that vibrancy around you’ll be better off going for understated beauty.

Slate & Moss
These fresh, earthy tones work all year round – gorgeous for an outdoorsy spring/summer wedding and equally so when combining with furry stoles and twinkly lights in winter.
Although this colour scheme allows for a very classic wedding, it also has a very contemporary appearance that will keep the overall style of your big day on point.
If you’re a nature-inspired bride with a love of Boho bridal hairstyles and the latest slate smoky eye trend, this is the ideal colour palette for you. Just imagine: your ‘naked’ wedding cake, quirky rustic décor and perhaps a barn venue. Just divine![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2985″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1521478888535{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1521480178989{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

This is such a sophisticated colour scheme and if you choose it for your upcoming wedding, you can rest assured that you are totally on trend. Subtle and simple yet carrying it’s own special decadence, make it work by:
- Using large, cream flowers sparingly with lots of sage and mossy toned foliage to make up your bouquets and other floral arrangements.
- Including pops of colour here and there. Slate and moss and stunning colours but alone, they can look a little drab. Just an injection of colour every so often can really bring the whole look together.
- Embracing the 2018 slate smoky eye! As mentioned above, this is one of the hottest eye makeup trends of the year and it’s an ideal match with this colour scheme.

Blush & Grey
Blush and grey tones just never seem to go out of fashion in the wedding world, so if you love these colours you simply can’t go wrong! If you’re after romance, there isn’t any other colour scheme that gives it off quite like this one. Peachy hues and splashes of dove grey embodies classic glamour and a loved up feel and as an added bonus – it is super versatile.
Think pink and embrace it! Pink champagne, pink rose petals, pink candles, pink cakes. It will look fabulous! The addition of soft grey will keep it under control just enough to make sure it looks elegant rather than like a little girl’s birthday party.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2984″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1521478989679{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1521480084493{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

Blush and grey is the number one wedding colour scheme for romance, so if that’s your thing you are going to love it. Don’t forget – pink is not just for girls! It can also be a really flattering colour for the guys and very cool. If the Groomsmen are willing to brave pink suits, do it! Make this colour scheme work by:
- Matching your blush bridesmaid dresses with the groomsmen accessories for cute synchronicity.
- Saving the blush colour for your own dress and have your bridal party in grey instead. If you love it, go for it! Brides are not confined to only wearing white anymore. A pink-hued gown will look absolutely incredible.
- Not being afraid to go overboard. Having dusky, pale pink everything with grey accents can look great. Unlike some of the brighter colours which can get a little overwhelming, it’s hard to overdo the peachy tones.
- Throwing a bit of glitter in there. Let’s face it, blush and grey is super-girly so if you want to have a bit of sparkle involved, it’s certainly not going to look out of place here.
