Bridal Hair styles for Short Hair

When it comes to choosing bridal hairstyles for short hair you might be surprised just how much choice is available.

Over the last 25 years working as a bridal hairstylist I’ve created beautiful wedding hair styles for many brides. And I have worked with all different hair lengths and hair types.

And short hair, whether it’s straight or naturally curly, can be surprisingly versatile. What’s more, you won’t have use hair extensions, unless you want to.

short, gorgeous, healthy Hair

Keep your hair in tip-top condition on the run-up to the wedding, with regular visits to your hairdresser for a trim. Always use good quality shampoo and conditioner. I love Sexy Hair products, because whilst they leave the hair residue-free, they are still nourishing for the hair.

If you have a colour on your hair it is particularly important to use a heat protector, to make sure you keep your locks looking glossy and gorgeous on the wedding day.

I love Silhouette Style & Care Lotion and use it before I style the hair as a heat protector, and also as a finishing product to banish flyaways and give the hair a gorgeous glossy finish.

So, if you’d like your hair up, a messy or neat bun, half-up style, beachy waves or a vintage wedding hair style al la Audrey Hepburn, you might be surprised at what you can achieve with your wedding hairstyle.

The venue, your wedding dress and choice of hair accessories also need to be factored in when it comes to choosing the right wedding hairstyle.

The wedding venue.

When looking at wedding hairstyles for short hair there are as many options as there are brides with short hair!

Think about your venue, if you are keeping your wedding low key, with a civil ceremony in your local registry office or you’re opting for black tie event in a Mayfair hotel it’s your big day and your moment to shine.

So, whether you have chosen a simple chic wedding dress of something more extravagant, you don’t really want your dress to be the main feature of the day.

It’s all about you, so make sure your wedding day hairstyle looks fabulous too!

If you have a fabulous pixie cut or the perfect short bob – a blow dry might be the best option for your wedding day hairstyle.

Alternatively, you can opt for a beachy wave to give your wedding day hairstyle for short hair with a bit of a twist.

curl the hair & keep the length

The beachy wave is a great way to give your short hair volume and movement on your wedding day.

And, because this curl can be created on even a short bob, it is definitely one of the styles you can add to your list of potential bridal hairstyles for short hair.

What’s more, the beachy wave look is easily achieved but best to try it out when you have a trial run, just to make sure!

Less is more with the beachy wave bridal hairstyle, so have a chat with your hairstylist to make sure your short hair doesn’t look over-styled.

Bridal hairstyles for short hair – working with extensions

If you have difficulty getting your short hair to grow long enough to get the bridal hair style of your dreams, don’t worry.

Hair extensions are the perfect option if you’re running out of time or if your hair refuses to grow.

So, if your hair is a little shorter than you would like, you can still have the wedding hairstyle of your dreams.

Clip-in extensions for short hair

You can use as many, or a few hair extensions as you like in order to achieve your desired bridal hairstyle.

So, having a few clip-in extensions to hand for your bridal hairstylist will mean they’ll be able to be a bit more creative when it comes to conjuring up wedding day hairstyles for short hair.

The downside to hair extensions is that you absolutely cannot wing it! Getting it wrong can lead to some big hair disasters and that is the last thing you want.

Hair extensions are a great addition to any bridal hairstylist’s kit but knowing how to use them (and use them well) is a must.

Whilst they can be fantastic for adding much-needed volume and length to finer hair or for secretly cheating hairstyles with multiple braid layers.

Remember Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones – how could we forget!

However, hair extensions they will only work well if your wedding hairstylist knows how to handle them.

Visible hair extensions, loose hair extensions or mismatched hair extensions are a bride’s nightmare.

Just remember, whether you opt to use hair extensions of not, it is definitely more than possible to create beautiful wedding hairstyles on short hair!

With over 25 years Wedding Makeup & Bridal Hair experience. . .

I’ve worked with all lengths and types of hair and some of the short bridal hairstyles that I have created are actually some of my favourite.

From vintage styles or beachy boho to making the most of a gorgeous pixie cut, you have more choice than you think…[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”1566″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1517775563266{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

Short & Chic

Keep it smooth and simple with some elegant movement for a chic look on a classic bride. A little lift in a pulled back fringe section can be styled as whimsical or punky for a contemporary edge.

Audrey Hepburn & Vintage Looks

Many people think that up-dos are only for brides with long hair, but that’s not true! There are plenty of gorgeous hair up styles and one of my favourite has got to be the classic ‘Audrey’ – a folded in pleat at the back of the hair, resulting in a neat style for a classic bride.

Finger waves and pin curls are also really fun vintage styling techniques to utilise. Having a decadent wedding? How about going for a 1920s ‘Great Gatsby’ flapper girl do? This works best on jaw length cuts.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”897″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”912″ img_size=”medium”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1518382037951{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

Undone & Wavy

Often, less is more with short bridal hairstyles – I love the undone look when combined with a little twist or braid added in for some intricacy without the overall look being over-styled.

If the hair has enough length to it, I would always set it in rollers first for a little root lift and volume with a gentle wave. This works particularly well on hair with highlights so that you can see all the texture in those all-important wedding photos.

Perfect Pixie

Sometimes a fantastic pixie cut only needs a very small amount of work and product to get it looking great. If you’ve got a pixie cut or a short bob that you love as is, I would recommend going for a blow-dry, rather than a ‘style’ to make the most of it, simply.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2119″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1517775662624{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

What About Extensions?

If you’ve really got your heart set on a longer style but your natural length is on the shorter side, we can always get creative with extensions! The key thing here is to only ever go for this choice if you’re hiring a hairstylist who really knows their stuff – you can’t wing it and succeed with extensions, they absolutely must be fixed in and styled right to look great. It’s very easy to get this wrong and end up with a hairstyle that is obviously made with fake hair!

Fortunately, I do know how to handle them, so when my clients tell me that they want a look that I feel extensions will work for, I’m happy to offer it.

Extensions don’t just mean going from short to long, they can also be used for adding volume, layers and braids to bring a look together. If you’re getting married and you’ve found a style you’d love to make work, don’t hesitate to get in touch for a chat – I’m always happy to help![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”1857″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_cta h2=”Need Help Finding Your Dream Look?” txt_align=”center” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”Get in Touch” btn_size=”lg” btn_align=”center” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.weddingmakeupandhair.com%2Fcontact%2F|||”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1517774797736{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]
