So many of my older clients write to me before their big day to express their concern over whether or nor it is possible for them to really love the way they look on their wedding day, but these worries are totally unfounded.
Many of my most stunning clients have been mature brides – age just doesn’t play a part when it comes to me helping you look totally gorgeous as you walk down the aisle.
It is true though, the hair and makeup for mature brides is a specialised skill – one that I am very proud to possess! Not because age makes you any less lovely but because it’s an undeniable fact that as we get older, our hair and skin changes and as a Bridal Hair and Makeup Artist it is essential to have the right knowledge and techniques to know how to get the best results.
From selecting the right products to showing you the most flattering styles, I know just how to make my mature brides look and feel amazing![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

Pick your primer

I love using Rose Dew by Cosmetics a la carte on my mature brides as it is a lovely, moisturising base layer for dry skin which leaves your skin feeling plump, fresh and hydrated, ready for some flawless foundation!
if your skin is still a bit oily, lucky you! Oily skin tends to form fewer wrinkles and tell-tale signs of ageing. This does, however, mean that you’ll need a different primer to suit your skin type: Laura Mercier oil free primer is a great product for oily skin and helps to keep the oil at bay whilst diminishing open pores.
Cosmetics a la carte Matte Miracle is another fab option: A beautifully light, oil absorbing gel that you can use on the t-zone – an essential to avoid looking shiny on camera.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2167″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1543995609429{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]

No more wrinkles!
Worried about wrinkles getting in the way of you and you ideal wedding day look?
Benefit Porefessional is one of my favourite products to use on my mature brides as it makes enlarged pores and fine lines vanish, by literally filling them in and making them disappear.
Wrinkles around the eyes can be some of the trickiest to deal with, but a great eye primer can go a long way it smoothing out and preventing eyeshadow creases. I find that Inglot Eyeshadow Keeper is the best eye primer for mature skin as it is light and colourless, yet effective – perfect for very delicate skin.
Troublesome under eye area Maybelline Age Rewind Eye Concealer is one of those low cost items that really works. It’s light in texture and is super easy to apply.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_empty_space][vc_single_image image=”2041″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1495172091066{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1544598832811{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

All about the base
Everything goes to pot if you don’t get the foundation right on mature skin. I always keep application smooth and light with a product that is lightweight yet buildable so that is can provide great coverage where it’s needed. Many Bridal Makeup Artists get this wrong by being way to heavy handed in an attempt to cover up signs of ageing, but this only ever makes things worse!
I love Firm & Glow by Cosmetics a la carte it comes in a wide range of shades, it’s light weight and anti-ageing whilst having good coverage – all at the same time!
A very light dusting of powder will help to set the foundation – making sure every thing stays in place – particularly important if you have oily skin. MAC Prep & Prime loose powder has a lovely fine texture so it works beautifully on mature brides. It is colourless and so works on all skin tones.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Contouring

Mature brides should avoid heavy contouring – as seen on YouTube! A gentle touch goes a long way.
I’ve found a lovely product Bare Cheek by one of my favourite makeup houses – Cosmetics a la carte.
Bare Cheek is a translucent gel that gives an ultra-natural bronze tint, smooths and perfects skin texture, and a radiant glow. Preservative-and perfume-free so ideal for sensitive skins.
Apply under the cheek bones and jaw for a fabulous sheer contour effect.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1543994710823{margin-top: 32px !important;}”]

Just a touch on the apples of your cheeks or along your cheekbones in all you need. There’s so much choice out there – have a browse around at MAC, Bobby Brown and Inglot – you’ll be spoilt for choice!
Highlighter should be subtle – not harsh. When correctly positioned it should sit on the upper edge of your cheek bones. It can look lovely – but it is dangerously close to the fine laughter lines around our eyes – and too much shimmer here will accentuate those lines and pile on the years – so go easy with the highlighter.
MAC Soft & Gentle is a powder shimmer that is definitely one of my new favorites.
If you prefer a cream highlighter try Shine Illuminator for a fabulous gentle, dewy finish.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1543994729685{margin-top: 32px !important;}”]

The way that eye makeup is applied might be the thing that requires the closest attention to change on mature skin, as anything too heavy or harsh will really accentuate signs of ageing.
Liquid and pencil eyeliners create a line that is way too harsh for mature brides, so instead, I like the add definition with a well blended, dark eyeshadow applied with a small, angled brush, for a soft sultry look that never smudges.
I keep eyelids looking youthful by steering clear of shadows that contain too much glitter and shimmer, instead opting for matte or very light shimmer products.
Eyelashes are usually a little thinner on my mature brides, so it’s really important to use an incredible mascara that creates impressive volume without clumping. I stick to my favourite, Clinique Lash Power Mascara, and finish the look off with a few individual false lashes.
I go easy on the brows, making sure that they are beautifully defined with a brow powder or wax, but never overdone or heavy. Powders and waxes are easier to control than a pencil – bit if you find pencils easier to use – find one that is not too soft – so you can control the amount of product you’re applying. Once it is on it’s hard to get off and remember less is more!
Apply just enough to create a flattering frame is what I aim for.
