Textured & secure hairstyles

A lot of the styles on Instagram look like they almost defy gravity :)

However, there is a big difference between being able to create Instagram worthy hairstyles for a photoshoot and for someone’s wedding day.

When I’m creating these styles for a photo shoot, the model just needs to walk from the styling area to the set, and that’s it.

And, the hairstyle only has to stay in no longer than an hour or so.

However, on the wedding day it’s a completely different story.

I will make sure your bridal hairstyle will withstand the rigours of the day, what ever they may be.

Natural Bridal Makeup

Natural Bridal Makeup

Natural bridal makeup on your wedding day will enhance your features and bring out your natural beauty. So, whether you are a young or mature bride, you’ll be able to blow him away when he sees you walk in the room.

With today’s Instagram images fuelling the trend for strong brows and equally strong contouring you might feel a bit intimidated if you’re a ‘no makeup’ kinda girl.

There are no hard and fast rules when it comes to makeup, on your wedding day you can have your makeup as strong or as natural as you like.

Your makeup does not have to be heavy for the photographs.

The most important thing is that you feel comfortable, confident and gorgeous on your big day.

Exactly how ‘natural’ you go for your wedding day makeup will depend on a number of different factors, all detailed below.

natural dewy bridal wedding makeup and hair by Pam Wrigley London Surrey individual lashes lash extensions

Natural makeup on your wedding day

Day time or evening wedding?

You can get away with a bit more makeup for an evening wedding – and you can still look really natural.

Summer or Winter wedding?

The days are so much shorter in the winter, and the light quite cold, even on a sunny winters day, so you’ll need a touch more makeup than you might think – just to look healthy and glowing!

Black tie affair in a Mayfair Hotel or Festval themed wedding in a barn?

You can definitely carry off a natural wedding makeup for either event, but the makeup would need to be tailored to fit you, your dress, the time of day and the lighting in the venue.

There is no need to look or feel like someone else on your big day

Whatever the time of day, type of venue or time of year be the ‘best version of you’ on your wedding day, with a natural, gorgeous makeup.

Natural Wedding Makeup Fabulous Eyes

Natural makeup depends on the subtle play of colours and tones, applied in just the right balance. The emphasis can be on the lips, but more usually it will be on the eyes.

Wedding makeup isn’t about just looking good on camera.

Your makeup doesn’t have to be heavy to look gorgeous on your wedding day.

On the wedding day the focus will be on you, you’ll be in a lot of photographs on your big day, however, you don’t have to have a heavy makeup to look good in photos.

It’s all about balance, it is important that your makeup looks good when people look at you close up.

Soft browns, neutral greys, even soft greens such as Lichen by cosmetics a la carte can be perfect for contouring and defining the eye.

A touch of shimmer on the eye lid can be pretty, for either a summer or winter wedding.

Lashes can be key when it comes to making a natural eye pop. I love using individual lashes – to give a little bit je ne sais qua.

The impression we want is that your eyes look gorgeous but the onlooker isn’t sure why.

Bridal makeup: the Base.

Choose your primer to suit your skin type, oily, dry or combination.

Next step is to even out your skin tone, try a lovely light tinted moisturiser e.g. a la carte Radiance Tinted Moisturiser

Cream or powder blush both work equally well, the skill is in the application.

It is important that your natural makeup stays looking good all day, so I would still advise a light dusting of powder such as Mac Prep & Prime.

Brows can be natural, but a touch of definition will help to frame your features. I find brow powders a bit easier to control when applying than brow pencils, best to start off with less definition and build up slowly.

natural wedding makeup and bridal hair and braided hairstyle by Pam Wrigley London Surrey Berkshire

Natural Bridal makeup, the trial run.

It can take more skill to apply beautiful natural makeup than dark, smokey wedding makeup.

To make sure you are happy with your natural makeup I would recommend organising your trial run during the day rather than in the evening. Artificial light in our homes is usually yellow and combined with the colour of your walls will affect the way your makeup looks. It’s always best to do the trial in natural light, so you can see how your makeup really looks.

The majority of my brides wear white or ivory dresses, not a colour we’re used to wearing every day, so you may need a hint more makeup than you would normally wear, just to make sure that you don’t get lost.

After all, we want the attention to be on you and not just on your dress.

Bridal Makeup For Oily Skin

soft smoky bridal wedding makeup and hair by Pam Wrigley London soft low bridal bun hairstyle

Bridal Makeup for Oily Skin

Be confident of long lasting bridal makeup on your wedding day, even if you have oily skin.

It might not seem like it, but oily skin is a blessing. . .once you get past the problems with breakouts and open pores. The one thing to remember is that you’ll stay younger looking for longer!

There are lots of skincare products out there to help you balance your skin. However, I’m not going to go into skincare on this page, as I like to leave that to beauticians and dermatologists.

My job as a wedding makeup artist is to work with your oily skin on the wedding day. I’ll be able to create bridal makeup that won’t look shiny or greasy. Plus I’ll make sure that your wedding makeup will last all day.

bridal makeup for oily skin, be confident of beautiful long lasting wedding makeup with Pam Wrigley bridal makeup artist and wedding hairstylist

bridal Make up for Oily Skin

On your wedding day, it is important that your makeup lasts all day.

My advice, unless you’re going to have a makeup artist with you all day, is to – avoid the dewy look, full stop.

Oily skin has a tendency to shine, particularly on the T-zone. And sometimes the eyelids, cheek and chin can also become oily over the length of the day.

Your best friend will be either a loose or compact powder to retouch your makeup or blotting sheets. We’ll get onto which powder to use later, but for now, as far as blotting papers are concerned there really is no need to spend a fortune, you can get them from Superdrug or Boots for under £5.

They’ll help to keep any shine at bay without any build-up of product – which you’ll be glad about if you get married on a hot sunny day.

bridal makeup for oily skin, be confident of beautiful long lasting wedding makeup with Pam Wrigley bridal makeup artist and wedding hairstylist

Bridal makeup – get ready – Get set – go!

Keeping your wedding makeup looking good all day starts at step one.

I usually recommend my brides to cleanse and moisturise as normal on the day of the wedding.

You want your skin to be perfect on the wedding day! So if you don’t have facials regularly – don’t have one the week before wedding – if there are any spots hiding under the skin –  best to leave them there.

Primers should be light and oil-free – your makeup artists will have her favourite product. However, I love Laura Mercier Oil-Free Primer, this light, oil-free product will start the mattifying process. Rich, creamy products will make the foundation slip and slide.

Mattifying products – usually light gels, that smooth over the skin and absorb any excess oil. Best applied before you put your makeup on. I love matte miracle by a la carte, it is light and easy to apply and does the job.

Open pores : Benefit Porefessional is amazing, it’s easy to apply and does a great job when it comes to minimising pores and even fine lines. Apply just before the foundation.

Some of my favourite products are manufactured by a London based company, a la carte, they have a fabulous selection of products for oily skin.

  • Light coverage, combination/gently oily skin – Sheer Balancing Foundation
  • Buildable coverage, combination/oily skin – Velvet Tint Flawless Cream Foundation
  • Acne-prone skin/oily skin – Cover Tint Flawless Touch Mineral Foundation

Each of these products can be used in combination.e.g. Sheer Balancing all over, Velvet Tint on  the T zone and Cover Tint as touch up throughout the day.

bridal makeup for oily skin, be confident of beautiful long lasting wedding makeup with Pam Wrigley bridal makeup artist and wedding hairstylist

Bridal Makeup for oily skin – Finishing Touches

When thinking about foundation – you can choose between light. medium or full cover.

The key is to look for light, oil-free formulations or even mineral powder. Avoid foundations sticks –  as they tend to be oily in their nature – it’s just the way they are made.

One thing to remember about foundation – which ever one you use – is that generally speaking  the more expensive the base – the more pigment it will contain.

This means you will be able to use less product and yet still get a flawless finish.

The key with foundation is to make sure you set it. Don’t get me wrong, the foundation is important, but powder is the key to making your wedding makeup last all day.

I love MAC Prep & Prime, it is colourless and works on all skin tones. Avoid using under the eye – especially if you have mature skin, as fine lines can end up looking like full-on wrinkles.

Try applying with a large powder brush or a powder puff. If you have particularly oily skin apply generously and leave it to sit on the skin for a couple of minutes before brushing away any excess with a brush.

You actually want your bridal makeup to start off looking a bit powdery and possibly a bit too matte .

Don’t worry, it takes around 30 minutes to an hour for the makeup to settle on the skin. So by the time you’re ready to get dressed and have your photos taken your wedding makeup will look natural and flawless.

bridal makeup for oily skin, be confident of beautiful long lasting wedding makeup with Pam Wrigley bridal makeup artist and wedding hairstylist

Wedding Makeup Quick Fix

Mineral powders are a great option when it comes to creating flawless bridal makeup for oily skin e.g. matte mineral foundation by a la carte.

If you haven’t tried them before I would definitely recommend giving them a try. You can use them on their own or on top of your base if you want an exceptionally flawless finish.

They’re quick and easy to apply, and you can go for a light or full cover just by changing how much product you apply.

When you’re using your mineral powder on its own, just make sure to give your primer time to settle and dry on the face. So ensuring the mineral powder glides on effortlessly and doesn’t stick to the skin.

Alternatively, you can apply the mineral powder over your foundation. With this option you will need to set your foundation first with your translucent powder.

You can then apply the mineral powder with a big clean blush brush, using small, gentle, circular movement to almost ‘push’ the product into the skin.

Help is at hand even if you have any stubborn spots or blemishes that keep creeping through your makeup no matter what you do.

Try applying a touch of mineral powder as a finishing touch once you’ve finished your makeup. Then leave it to settle for a few minutes before brushing off any excess.

This is step is easy to repeat if needed throughout the day.

Avoid mineral powders with shimmer added as they will bring back the shine we’re working hard to get rid of.

bridal makeup for oily skin, be confident of beautiful long lasting wedding makeup with Pam Wrigley bridal makeup artist and wedding hairstylist

Dewy wedding makeup

Ok, if you want a dewy finish you can have one.

The key is to start matte. So definitely use a setting powder.

There are a couple of options when it comes to achieving a dewy finish when creating your perfect wedding day makeup.

Careful use of highlight. The last thing you want is to look greasy or sweaty in your photos, and this is definitely a risk if you opt for a ‘dewy all over’ finish.

I would advise using a powder highlighter applying it carefully in the areas you want to shine. Apply just above the cheekbone, and a touch below the brow, and that’s it.

Definitely not down the centre of the nose or on your forehead, or you will undo all the good work you’ve put in with your primer, Mattifying products, foundation and powder.

Setting sprays are great, personally I love the NYX product. But avoid the dewy finish setting spray.

You have your own natural dewy glow, as the day turns to night you might find your self using a touch more powder or a couple of the shine-free papers I mentioned earlier, to make sure your makeup takes you effortlessly from day to evening.

Vintage Hairstyles Wedding Makeup

VINTAGE Hairstyles & WEDDING MAKEUP

Natural makeup and low bun hair style for a bride. Created by Pam Wrigley bridal hairstylist and wedding makeup artist, London.

vintage wedding makeup & Bridal HAIRstyles

beautiful makeup, gorgeous hairstyles

Vintage hairstyles and wedding makeup never seem to go out of fashion!

So, whether you are having a vintage themed party or wedding, or perhaps attending an event somewhere like Goodwood, you need the right makeup to bring your look together.

I don’t know how they do it, but the vintage makeup looks are timeless. And even though, in some cases the wedding dress can give you an idea as to the year someone got married, vintage makeup gives nothing away.

Vintage Glamour

There are some exquisitely beautiful vintage looking hotels scattered around London that seem to have been stuck in a time warp. They haven’t of course.

And although everything about them screams old school glamour, they have all the essential luxuries to make sure that your vintage wedding party is a roaring success.

I’ve worked in some pretty amazing vintage themed venues, one of my favourites is The Town Hall Hotel in Patriot Square. Maybe not vintage to the last detail, but definitely worth a look if you are on the hunt for the perfect venue.

And a very close second is the little known, but totally divine Wellesley Hotel in Knightsbridge.

It’s like stepping back in time, into a little bit of 1920s ’30s or 40’s London, I’m not sure which – but with all the glamour of the Frank Sinatra and the 1950s!

So, what ever the decade of your vintage themed wedding, there is a venue out there that is right for you.

vintage makeup & Instagram hairstyles

And a makeup artist ready to help you bring your vintage hairstyle and makeup ideas a reality.

I would advise having a trial however, so you can work out just how vintage you would like to go.

And although your wedding day hairstyle will need to work seamlessly with your makeup you don’t have to go vintage the whole way if you don’t want to.

It is totally possible mix and match, and to wear beautiful vintage makeup with a bang up to the minute textured wedding day hairstyle.

Hollywood vintage hairstyles

Wearing your hair down in a beautiful Hollywood wave will work whatever your age. And what’s more, both young and older brides can definitely carry off this classic vintage hair style.

Hairstyle Ideas for your big day

This page is dedicated to wedding hairstyle ideas, so I can offer you a little bit of inspiration for your big day.

Whatever the length of your hair you’ll be able to find the perfect wedding day hairstyle.

And, although there are lots of style ideas and inspiration to be had on Instagram, finding a hairstyle that will be right for you on your wedding day is another story altogether.

wedding hair trial run

That’s where the trial run comes into its own. I always suggest my brides do a bit of research in advance of the trial, that way you can start to narrow down your style ideas a bit.

Having a few images to look at on the trial will also be really helpful for me as well. Because I will get a rough idea of the sort of wedding hairstyles that you like.

Your wedding hairstyle ideas may vary widely, and that’s no problem.

Don’t worry, it will help me to get a feel for you and the sort of looks that you might potentially go for.

Having said that, the images are just a starting point. When choosing the right hairstyle we’ll also need to consider your dress, jewellery, hair accessories and your venue.

So, there are lots of things to consider before I even put a comb through your hair.

wedding natural vintage bridal make-up low bun hairstyle Pam Wrigley Sussex

clean or dirty hair

It is a myth that dirty hair is better to work with when it comes to creating wedding day hair styles.

Well, I suppose it depends on your definition of dirty.

Perhaps it’s better to say greasy hair is never good to put up!

I usually recommend my brides arrive for their trial run with clean, dry hair.

You can either wash your hair the day before the bridal trial or if your hair gets greasy easily you can wash it on the morning of the trial run.

One point to note however, I always ask my brides not to use any leave-in products, deep conditioners or serum.

Certain leave-in products can make the hair super soft and slippery, as a result, they can be a bridal hairstylists nightmare!

Curly hair brides can, however, disregard this rule!

Because the rules regarding leave-in products do not apply if you have naturally curly hair.

The starting point is always slightly different when coming up with wedding hairstyle ideas for naturally curly hair, and it will be different for each curly hair bride.

Please get in touch to discuss your individual curl requirements!

Bridal Hairstyles for Short Hair

Bridal hairstyles for short hair

bridal hair styles and wedding hairstyle and mother of the bride hair and makeup by Pam Wrigley at Hedsor House

Bridal Hair styles for Short Hair

When it comes to choosing bridal hairstyles for short hair you might be surprised just how much choice is available.

Over the last 25 years working as a bridal hairstylist I’ve created beautiful wedding hair styles for many brides. And I have worked with all different hair lengths and hair types.

And short hair, whether it’s straight or naturally curly, can be surprisingly versatile. What’s more, you won’t have use hair extensions, unless you want to.

short, gorgeous, healthy Hair

Keep your hair in tip-top condition on the run-up to the wedding, with regular visits to your hairdresser for a trim. Always use good quality shampoo and conditioner. I love Sexy Hair products, because whilst they leave the hair residue-free, they are still nourishing for the hair.

If you have a colour on your hair it is particularly important to use a heat protector, to make sure you keep your locks looking glossy and gorgeous on the wedding day.

I love Silhouette Style & Care Lotion and use it before I style the hair as a heat protector, and also as a finishing product to banish flyaways and give the hair a gorgeous glossy finish.

Wedding Hairstyles for Short Hair

You’ll be presently surprised at just how much choice is out there, once you start looking for wedding hairstyles for short hair.

So, if you’d like your hair up, a messy or neat bun, half-up style, beachy waves or a vintage wedding hair style al la Audrey Hepburn, you might be surprised at what you can achieve with your wedding hairstyle.

When your choosing a wedding hair style there are a number of things to consider, not just the length of your hair and your face shape.

The venue, your wedding dress and choice of hair accessories also need to be factored in when it comes to choosing the right wedding hairstyle.

Bridal Hair Styles for short hair

The wedding venue.

When looking at wedding hairstyles for short hair there are as many options as there are brides with short hair!

Think about your venue, if you are keeping your wedding low key, with a civil ceremony in your local registry office or you’re opting for black tie event in a Mayfair hotel it’s your big day and your moment to shine.

So, whether you have chosen a simple chic wedding dress of something more extravagant, you don’t really want your dress to be the main feature of the day.

It’s all about you, so make sure your wedding day hairstyle looks fabulous too!

Bridal hair styles for short hair

If you have a fabulous pixie cut or the perfect short bob – a blow dry might be the best option for your wedding day hairstyle.

Alternatively, you can opt for a beachy wave to give your wedding day hairstyle for short hair with a bit of a twist.

curl the hair & keep the length

The beachy wave is a great way to give your short hair volume and movement on your wedding day.

And, because this curl can be created on even a short bob, it is definitely one of the styles you can add to your list of potential bridal hairstyles for short hair.

What’s more, the beachy wave look is easily achieved but best to try it out when you have a trial run, just to make sure!

Less is more with the beachy wave bridal hairstyle, so have a chat with your hairstylist to make sure your short hair doesn’t look over-styled.

bridal hairstyle low bun with extensions wedding day hair style by Pam Wrigley

Bridal hairstyles for short hair – working with extensions

If you have difficulty getting your short hair to grow long enough to get the bridal hair style of your dreams, don’t worry.

Hair extensions are the perfect option if you’re running out of time or if your hair refuses to grow.

So, if your hair is a little shorter than you would like, you can still have the wedding hairstyle of your dreams.

Clip-in extensions for short hair

You can use as many, or a few hair extensions as you like in order to achieve your desired bridal hairstyle.

So, having a few clip-in extensions to hand for your bridal hairstylist will mean they’ll be able to be a bit more creative when it comes to conjuring up wedding day hairstyles for short hair.

The downside to hair extensions is that you absolutely cannot wing it! Getting it wrong can lead to some big hair disasters and that is the last thing you want.

Hair extensions are a great addition to any bridal hairstylist’s kit but knowing how to use them (and use them well) is a must.

Whilst they can be fantastic for adding much-needed volume and length to finer hair or for secretly cheating hairstyles with multiple braid layers.

Remember Emilia Clarke in Game of Thrones – how could we forget!

However, hair extensions they will only work well if your wedding hairstylist knows how to handle them.

Visible hair extensions, loose hair extensions or mismatched hair extensions are a bride’s nightmare.

Just remember, whether you opt to use hair extensions of not, it is definitely more than possible to create beautiful wedding hairstyles on short hair!

Bridal hairstyles for long hair

Bridal Hairstyles for Long Hair

long thick heavy hair bridal hairstyle and wedding makeup by Pam Wrigley soft natural curls and braids

Bridal Hairstyles for Long, heavy Hair

If you’re lucky enough to have lovely long, thick, heavy hair you’ll have lots to choose from when it comes to looking at bridal hairstyles.

However, there are a couple of stumbling blocks to watch out for so read on for lots of advice on wedding day hair styles.

One thing is for sure, with long, thick heavy hair you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to picking a wedding day hairstyle.

long lasting hairstyles for thick, heavy hair

So, if you’d like your hair up, a messy or neat bun your stylist just needs to create the right foundations.

This way your hair will not fall down, on the contrary, it will stay in place all day and into the evening.

You can take your pick of half up styles and beachy waves when you have long thick heavy hair.

However, there are a number of things to consider, not just your hair type and your face shape, when your choosing a wedding hair style.

The venue, your wedding dress and believe it not even the height of your groom also need to be factored in.

So don’t be in a rush when it comes to choosing the right wedding hairstyle for your big day.

Wedding Hair Styles for thick, long hair

Gorgeous Plaits & BraidsFishtail braids, French, Dutch and waterfall braids can all be incorporated into your wedding day hairstyle and they all look gorgeous!

Braids often show up best in hair that has different tones and a few highlights eg blonde hair, highlighted or low lighted hair.

So, if you have dark hair that is one solid colour it night be worth having a chat with your hairdresser.

braids & beautiful hairstyles

Because just a couple of different tones in the hair will make sure your braids look photo-ready!

You can incorporate braids with Beachy waves, soft curls or gorgeous volume. And because you can have your hair up, or down, so the choice really is endless!

On your trial run your wedding hairstylist will be able to try different curling techniques, different braids as well as different hairstyles.

wedding hair and bridal makeup by Pam Wrigley working with long thick heavy hair brides hairstyle

Bridal hair styles for Heavy hair

If your long, thick heavy hair also happens to be poker straight – your hairdresser will need to work a bit harder to create a curl that stays in all day.

But don’t despair, because fabulous long-lasting curls can definitely be achieved for your wedding day hairstyle.

Heated rollers probably won’t pack enough punch for your long hair. So your bridal hairstylist will probably need to use tongs, straighteners or even a curly blow-dry.

DIY bridal hairstyles for long hair

If you want the curl to hold, you don’t want the hair to be too clean – or too dirty. It’s a fine balance.

When curling with tongs you’ll find it best to start at the nape of the neck and working upwards. Only curling small sections of hair at a time and securing the curl in place until they are cool will really help your curls stay in.

The curls will also last longer if you avoid using any deep heat treatments, leave in conditions or hair oils of any kind. Just in the few days before the wedding.

You almost want the hair to feel a little bit ‘dry’. But don’t worry, your hair stylist can always make your hair shine, but if it is too soft it will not hold the curl.

Always use a good heat protector before curling, I love Silhouette Style & Care Lotion.

Then, once you’ve finished you can try spraying your lovely curls with a touch of dry shampoo – it will give the curl a bit of extra longevity!

wedding braided hairstyle and smoky bridal makeup by Pam Wrigley London Surrey

Bridal hairstyles for long hair – working with extensions

Kate, the bride in this photo has fabulously long thick heavy hair, but we still needed to add several 24″ extensions to create this lovely over the shoulder braided wedding day hair style.

Many of the gorgeous hairstyles we see on Pinterest and Instagram have had hair extensions added to give that extra bit of oomph and gorgeousness.

Hidden hair extensions

Bonded extensions are an option, but can be expensive. Clip in extensions can look just as fabulous and they’re so much easier to work with and adaptable with when it comes to creating beautiful wedding hairstyles.

I always recommend human hair extensions. Synthetic extensions don’t blend as well with your own hair and there is less control when it comes to getting the perfect curl.

Human hair is undeniably the pricier option but it’s well worth it. Save your self extra work and buy hair extensions with clips already sewn on, they don’t cost much more but they will save you a lot of time and energy!

I love using American Dream extensions for their really natural look and great range of colours and hair types. Remember though, the hair must match your hair as closely as possible.

NB If you are only going to wear your hair extensions a couple of times, no need to buy the more expensive Remy hair.

Top Tip

For extra holding power try using a sprinkling of texturising powder at the root of the hair just before you clip in the extensions.

Hair up styles for long, heavy hair

Buns are a great option for when it comes to creating beautiful wedding hairstyles for long, thick, heavy hair.

High, low, smooth and sleek fo soft and relaxed, the choice is yours.

One of the brides’ biggest concerns is that their hair might have to be pulled back tight at the front in order for their hair up.

We all want to feel like a movie star on our wedding day and so how better to make that a reality than to base our look on an actual movie star?!

You can choose a bridal icon to suit any wedding look, here are just a few examples of icons through the years…[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Need Bridal Makeup Inspiration?” txt_align=”center” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”View Galleries” btn_size=”lg” btn_align=”center” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.weddingmakeupandhair.com%2Fphoto-galleries%2F%3Fterm%3D11%26orderby%3Ddate%26order%3DDESC|||”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418370790{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

AUDREY HEPBURN

We had to start with possibly the ultimate bridal icon. If you want an effortlessly chic look then this is the look to go for. The classic ‘Audrey Up-do’ is sophisticated, it’s classic simplicity makes it a style that works with any wedding dress. This timeless back pleated style is perfect for keeping long, thick hair off your face but it’s the ideal style for short or mid length too! You would be amazed at how much can be done with short hair.

Let’s not forget the cute, pixie crop that Audrey rocked for her own wedding back in the 1950s. If you have short hair or are holding off on a bold haircut, why not be brave and copycat this gorgeous look? It’s a beautiful, feminine and perfect as contrast against a detailed dress or minimalistic with a vintage style gown.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416895487{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416210106{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]If you want to introduce a Hepburn vibe into you make up look, be sure to keep the brows bold – she’s known for those gorgeous face-framers! Subtle yet smoky eye-shadow can be used to give the appearance of large, doe eyes, paired of course with the obligatory eyeliner to create a beautiful winged tip. Fake lashes are a must for fluttery peepers too, but individual lashes are always better than strip for a natural look.

Unlike many vintage icons, for Audrey, you want to avoid a red lip and instead opt for a soft pink. Girlish and fresh, yet sexy.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416247436{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

BRIGITTE BARDOT

Once dubbed the most beautiful woman in the world, who doesn’t want a little of that on their wedding day? Her classic style was the bouffant 60s hair, but with a sultry, casual edge and cat eye make-up. Back combing is a big part of this look to add volume and height.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3060″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1534417508987{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416285676{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Part of the charm of Brigitte’s look was that it always felt effortless and was far from perfect, ideal for those of you with a natural wave. Keep it uncomplicated and relaxed.

Much like Audrey, much of the focus is on the cat eyeliner and this is essential to really nail this look. The rest of the face should be kept flawless but not overdone  and lips should be natural for a beautiful bridal style.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534417520445{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416335625{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

NAOMI CAMPBELL

Think long, sleek and shiny. Naomi Campbell kept her 90s hair super simple, often with a centre parting – a look that is back in fashion and easy to achieve but has optimum impact. The right products are essential to keep this look perfect – you want that hair looking glossy all day long!

Consider your style of dress when thinking about this minimalist hair down style – if you have very long hair like Naomi and have lots of back detail on your dress, you don’t want to obscure it! But this also works on that very 90s bob style and that could show off a beautifully back really well.

When it comes to the make-up, it’s all about the shaped eyebrow and natural make up to suit your skin tone.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416415649{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

BIANCA JAGGER

This dark haired beauty was high fashion! Her long dark hair had a soft roll – feminine, sexy but so simple. For this look, we want to keep your hair shiny and voluminous with a side parting for serious feminine charm.

At her own wedding day in the 70s, Bianca perfected the no make-up, make-up look before it’s time and wore a hat, so don’t feel as though you have to stick to conventional wedding looks if you want to add some real personality. She was also known for a luscious lip and a heavy lashes. Think deep, sexy eyes and contour to give you cheekbones. Bad-ass elegance![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534417684819{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416440682{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE, KATE MIDDLETON

Kate is the ultimate bridal icon! You can create her wedding look regardless of your hair type. If you’re blessed with luxurious, long locks then blow-drying and soft curls will be all you need. If you have thinner hair, you may need to consider adding some extensions for some extra bounce.

Pinned back the sides create the ‘demi-chignon’ for the most royal of wedding looks. If you want to channel your inner Kate but want to avoid copying her bridal look, she has so many looks she has worn since her wedding day that you’ll be sure to love! Chignons, half-up/half-down, ponytails and natural waves…dignified and graceful.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416468118{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]To create her make up look, keep your foundation dewy or matte with blusher creating a pop on the apples of your cheeks, for a rosy glow. A neutral eye shadow is ideal for the lid with a darker shade closer to the lash line, finished with a slight flick of eyeliner and black lashes.

Kate tends to stick with a natural lip and the royal tradition of Essie Ballet Slipper nails, so avoid anything too bold.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534417789868{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416510705{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

GRACE KELLY

Grace Kelly’s was one of the most famous brides of the 20th century and is one to be inspired by if you love vintage up-dos with soft, small curls and gentle volume. This is a style that can be created with any length of hair. If, however, you have shorter hair and don’t want an up-do, create a smooth, slicked back style with curls at the bottom for modern vintage.

Grace Kelly wasn’t known for her make-up, but this speaks volumes about the make-up she wore. Perfectly simple, there but almost not! Opt for a light coverage make up, keep it pale and fresh with a little blush. Go light on the eyeliner and avoid heavy eye shadow. One coat of mascara is all you’ll need and maybe a few individual lashes for definition in those wedding photos. Stick to a lip shade close to your natural colour and add lip liner to finish off the look.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418311400{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

SOPHIA LOREN

Who says brides can’t be sexy? If you want a sensual look for your wedding day, Sophia Loren is your bridal icon.

Her hair was voluptuous and sultry. Big barrel curls for a romantic, sexy bridal look. If you have short hair, add volume! Big and beautiful! Go for a big, bold cat-eye for ultimate sex appeal and long, long lashes. Draw all the attention to the eye and stick to a natural lip.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534417931614{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416590610{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

RHIANNA

Rhianna may not have been your immediate thought when planning your wedding look but, there isn’t a signature look to emulate here, it’s an essence! Rihanna is bold when it comes to her style. She’s rocked long hair, short hair and every colour you can think of. If you want to keep your look modern, young and playful – consider her as your inspiration!

She’s definitely a believer in lip OR eye. Smokey eye versus a bold, bold lip! Don’t be afraid to experiment, you have time to trial your look before the big day.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418086849{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418395076{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

MEGHAN MARKLE

We couldn’t discuss your bridal icon and not mention Meghan! Meghan’s gorgeous, shiny hair and ‘messy’ buns are exactly what you need on your wedding day. Keep some hair around the face to keep the look delicate and ‘undone’

Meghan’s make up look has evolved over the years, since becoming a royal she’s kept her look natural and neutral. She defines her eyes with mascara and keeps her skin glowy. She doesn’t make the make-up the focus and so if you’re not a big make-up wearer, follow her lead and keep it soft and delicate.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418207245{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Want to Sparkle Like Markle?” txt_align=”center” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”Here’s How…” btn_size=”lg” btn_align=”center” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.weddingmakeupandhair.com%2F2018%2F05%2Fmeghan-markle-wedding%2F|||”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2939″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418289986{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Remember, you don’t have to stick to one bridal icon. Feel free to play around – mix and match! Find something about each one that you like and experiment. Become your own style icon!

Whichever look you opt for, it has to compliment YOU. Colours that work with your skin tone, hairstyles that suit your natural hair. Whilst you want to feel like a superstar on your wedding day, you also want to feel like yourself.

Think carefully about the style of wedding dress and make sure your hair and make up flatter your choice. If you’ve yet to decide on your dress, why not be inspired by your style icon? A theme can work well to give your whole look coherency. Start with the icon and let the rest of the wedding come from there. Be inspired. Experiment. But always feel happy with the choices you’re making, for you.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Tips for Beautiful Hair & Skin at Your Winter Wedding

The winter months are often the most drying for hair and skin, thanks to the blasts of hot central heating and cold air and the chill leading many of us to stop drinking as much water as perhaps we should be.

Because of this, hydration is key to keeping your hair lustrous and your skin soft, smooth and supple – the perfect base for making the most of makeup.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”2466″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1513879764639{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1513879239972{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

  • Treat yourself to an over-night hair oil treatment once or twice a week on the run up to your wedding for locks that are super shiny and frizz-free. Spend at least 10 minutes applying the oil of your choice with a luxurious scalp massage to really stimulate the blood flow to your scalp for optimal hair growth and balanced sebum production.

  • Your skin is going to be pretty thirsty too, so whatever you do – don’t skip the moisturiser! A weekly intense hydration mask will help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles that are exacerbated by dehydration and leave you with plump, youthful, healthy skin.

  • Avoid really hot showers. It can be tempting to crank up the heat when you’re showering on a cold day, but that hot water is as damaging to your hair as heat styling and it will also strip your scalp of much-needed moisture which can lead to a flaky appearance, so keep it cool whenever possible.

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”2478″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1514478570980{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1513879273517{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

  • If you suffer from frizzy, flyaway hair, a silk turban for sleeping in might be what you need. You’ve got that ring on your finger so your other half can’t leave you now, even if you do look a bit mad at bedtime! Despite the funky appearance, it’s totally worth it. Wrapping your hair in silk helps to retain moisture in each strand as well as depositing some of that luxurious silk, whilst also avoiding excess static-causing friction as you sleep. Check out SILKE London for some ready to wear turbans that actually look pretty glam…

  • Dry skin isn’t as good as hydrated skin at shedding dead skin cells, so exfoliation during winter months in preparation for your wedding day is a must! Buy yourself a lovely exfoliator and add this important step into your skincare routine each night before bed. Gently does it! You don’t need to scrub (this will do more harm than good!) just light, circular motions will do the trick. Exfoliate before you go to bed so that your skin doesn’t have to content with UV rays afterwards and slather on that moisturiser when you’re done.
