Whether that’s because it’s not applied as well as it could be or it’s just not the look you were imagining, it’s important that you figure out how to get the wedding makeup of your dreams long before your big day, whether that’s with the help of a professional wedding makeup artist like me or going it alone.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Need Bridal Makeup Inspiration?” txt_align=”center” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”View Galleries” btn_size=”lg” btn_align=”center” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.weddingmakeupandhair.com%2Fphoto-galleries%2F%3Fterm%3D11%26orderby%3Ddate%26order%3DDESC|||”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1508171719818{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]The makeup you decide on for your wedding day needs to make you feel like ‘the very best version of you’, but that doesn’t mean that just your every day makeup will suffice!

Why Hire a Pro for Your Wedding Day?
Hiring a bridal hair and makeup artist can help enormously with easing the overall stress on the morning of your wedding day, meaning that you’ll be left feeling happy and confident when it matters most.
Your wedding day can be quite full-on and this is just one of the reasons why even if you’re fairly nifty when it comes to applying your own makeup on a daily basis, getting a helping hand from a pro really takes the pressure off.
A great wedding makeup artist will get your look just right, so that you feel amazing walking down that aisle.

Your Trial Run
If you choose to hire a hair and makeup artist for your wedding day, the trial run is the time when you decide on the all-important look, so it’s key to get the most out of it that you can.
Book your trial run in 3-6 months before your big day (read more about what to expect on your Trial Run here).
Whilst the outcome of the trial will largely come down to the skill of your makeup artist, there are some things that you can do to make the most of it:
- Wear a white top so that you can see how your makeup will look against your dress (button up, if you’re having your hair done too!)
- Take photos to see the look on camera, from all angles
- Stock up on inspiration images and bring them with you
- If you’re planning on having a fake tan on your wedding day, have it for the trial too.

Naturally Gorgeous Lashes
Even if you’re going for a very natural look, false lashes are an absolute must for making those peepers picture perfect.
Strip lashes look a little fake and full on, so I tend to avoid these and instead, I use individual lashes for gorgeous length and volume that looks really natural.
Picture Perfect Products
The type of makeup used can have a big impact, especially when it comes to flash photography.
Any makeup that contains SPF, zinc oxide or are marketed as ‘illuminating’ can have what is known as a ‘masking effect’ in photos, meaning that you’ll might look white as a sheet! You can either avoid these and instead look for makeup that is HD, long-lasting or designed for camera.
Don’t worry if your favourite base contains one of these products – your makeup artist can apply a light dusting of one of Dior’s Nude Air Glow Powders – they are fabulous for adding a touch of warmth and gorgeousness, so your base will look fab in all your photos!
My favourite foundation brand is Cosmetics A La Carte, for their huge range of shades that suit every skin tone, long wear and flawless finish on and off camera.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”2165″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1508171328503{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1509536455417{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]
Use Bright, Natural Lighting
Always apply your makeup in bright, natural light! Make sure that you have this for the trial (or if you’re practicing your own makeup) and on the day itself too.
If you’re getting ready in a hotel room or similar, think about where you can sit on the day to have your makeup done that has plenty of natural light.
Steer Clear of Lip Gloss
Unless you absolutely love it – it might be best to avoid super-shiny lip gloss – it can be super sticky and more likely to come off at the first kiss!
No gloss doesn’t mean that you have to wear a matte lip: I often use a lipstick with a satin or shimmer finish instead rather than a full-on mirror gleam for a beautiful, longer lasting alternative.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
