Natural Makeup for Asian Brides

Natural Bridal Make-up for South Asian Brides.

One of my areas of expertise is creating natural makeup for Asian brides. As a wedding makeup artist and bridal hair stylist, I work with brides of all different nationalities and all different ages.

However, one of my most requested looks from many of my South Asian Brides is a natural makeup look.

Asian/Indian brides traditionally wear quite heavy makeup. So it can be difficult to find a makeup artist who can achieve that natural glowing look for Asian brides. So you look like ‘you’ but totally gorgeous.

Heavy makeup can look beautiful. However, if like many of my Indian and South Asian brides, you are looking for a more natural makeup look on your wedding day, you’ve come to the right place.

Natural Bridal makeup fro South Asian, Indian, Pakistani and Bangladeshi Brides

Natural Wedding Makeup for Indian brides

So, whether you are a Pakistani, Bangladeshi or Indian bride, I’m here to help.

Some of my brides of South Asian origin get in touch with me after already having had a trial run with another makeup artist.

Having asked for natural makeup they may come away from their trial feeling disappointed, after being told that they have to have heavy makeup.

I can 100% re-assure you that you can definitely HAVE NATURAL MAKEUP as a South Indian bride. Whatever your choice or dress – or dresses – on your wedding day.

And what’s more, you’ll look and feel totally gorgeous on your wedding day.

Plus you’ll look amazing in your wedding photos.

Where ever you’re from in the world, if you’d like a more natural makeup look on your wedding day – you can have it!

Everyone has their own idea of what natural makeup is.

For some brides, a natural makeup look means wearing very little makeup. Whilst for others, it means wearing quite a bit of makeup – but in neutral tones.

Natural wedding makeup could even encompass a slightly smokey eye but a natural base.

That’s where the trial run comes in.

If you’re not sure about how to have your makeup,

and you’d like to find out which makeup would suit you. . .

Just drop me a line – and book your trial run.

“The makeup felt light and naturaL”

South Asian and Indian natural Bridal makeup on the wedding day

This thank you message from Dhara, one of my beautiful Indian brides, says it all. . .

A massive thank you

Hi Pam,

I just wanted to drop you a quick message to say a massive thank you for Saturday.

You did such an amazing job. The makeup you did felt light and natural, and despite wearing no make up at all on a daily basis I felt really comfortable with it because I still looked like myself.  I did not think that would be even possible!

You properly listened and understood what I wanted and the end result was better than I could even have imagined!

Looking at some photos that friends and family took I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out.

I want to massively thank you for helping me to use my curly hair as it is, and for the glowing, subtle makeup that was just enough to make me feel like a bride!

Thank you for all your advice throughout the day. You are the expert on all things beauty and I felt like I was in safe hands with you throughout – it allowed me to relax and enjoy the day much more than I would have been able to otherwise. The time we had to change between outfits was short but you were so efficient and it never appeared rushed. I am so thankful I came across your name!

Please also thank Akua for me, as she did an amazing job on my mum and sister as well!

Best wishes,

Dhara

Hairstyle Ideas for your big day

This page is dedicated to wedding hairstyle ideas, so I can offer you a little bit of inspiration for your big day.

Whatever the length of your hair you’ll be able to find the perfect wedding day hairstyle.

And, although there are lots of style ideas and inspiration to be had on Instagram, finding a hairstyle that will be right for you on your wedding day is another story altogether.

wedding hair trial run

That’s where the trial run comes into its own. I always suggest my brides do a bit of research in advance of the trial, that way you can start to narrow down your style ideas a bit.

Having a few images to look at on the trial will also be really helpful for me as well. Because I will get a rough idea of the sort of wedding hairstyles that you like.

Your wedding hairstyle ideas may vary widely, and that’s no problem.

Don’t worry, it will help me to get a feel for you and the sort of looks that you might potentially go for.

Having said that, the images are just a starting point. When choosing the right hairstyle we’ll also need to consider your dress, jewellery, hair accessories and your venue.

So, there are lots of things to consider before I even put a comb through your hair.

clean or dirty hair

It is a myth that dirty hair is better to work with when it comes to creating wedding day hair styles.

Well, I suppose it depends on your definition of dirty.

Perhaps it’s better to say greasy hair is never good to put up!

I usually recommend my brides arrive for their trial run with clean, dry hair.

You can either wash your hair the day before the bridal trial or if your hair gets greasy easily you can wash it on the morning of the trial run.

One point to note however, I always ask my brides not to use any leave-in products, deep conditioners or serum.

Certain leave-in products can make the hair super soft and slippery, as a result, they can be a bridal hairstylists nightmare!

Curly hair brides can, however, disregard this rule!

Because the rules regarding leave-in products do not apply if you have naturally curly hair.

The starting point is always slightly different when coming up with wedding hairstyle ideas for naturally curly hair, and it will be different for each curly hair bride.

Please get in touch to discuss your individual curl requirements!

Wedding Hair Style galleries

I have worked with quite a few brides over the last 25+ years, and each person has had something different. No two brides are the same, and neither is their hairstyle.

So please, peruse my hairstyle galleries below to get lots of wedding day ideas.

What’s more, my portfolio isn’t limited to these bridal hairstyles, I can create any style!

AUDREY HEPBURN

We had to start with possibly the ultimate bridal icon. If you want an effortlessly chic look then this is the look to go for. The classic ‘Audrey Up-do’ is sophisticated, it’s classic simplicity makes it a style that works with any wedding dress. This timeless back pleated style is perfect for keeping long, thick hair off your face but it’s the ideal style for short or mid length too! You would be amazed at how much can be done with short hair.

Let’s not forget the cute, pixie crop that Audrey rocked for her own wedding back in the 1950s. If you have short hair or are holding off on a bold haircut, why not be brave and copycat this gorgeous look? It’s a beautiful, feminine and perfect as contrast against a detailed dress or minimalistic with a vintage style gown.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416895487{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416210106{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]If you want to introduce a Hepburn vibe into you make up look, be sure to keep the brows bold – she’s known for those gorgeous face-framers! Subtle yet smoky eye-shadow can be used to give the appearance of large, doe eyes, paired of course with the obligatory eyeliner to create a beautiful winged tip. Fake lashes are a must for fluttery peepers too, but individual lashes are always better than strip for a natural look.

Unlike many vintage icons, for Audrey, you want to avoid a red lip and instead opt for a soft pink. Girlish and fresh, yet sexy.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416247436{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

BRIGITTE BARDOT

Once dubbed the most beautiful woman in the world, who doesn’t want a little of that on their wedding day? Her classic style was the bouffant 60s hair, but with a sultry, casual edge and cat eye make-up. Back combing is a big part of this look to add volume and height.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_single_image image=”3060″ img_size=”full” css=”.vc_custom_1534417508987{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416285676{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Part of the charm of Brigitte’s look was that it always felt effortless and was far from perfect, ideal for those of you with a natural wave. Keep it uncomplicated and relaxed.

Much like Audrey, much of the focus is on the cat eyeliner and this is essential to really nail this look. The rest of the face should be kept flawless but not overdone  and lips should be natural for a beautiful bridal style.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534417520445{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416335625{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

NAOMI CAMPBELL

Think long, sleek and shiny. Naomi Campbell kept her 90s hair super simple, often with a centre parting – a look that is back in fashion and easy to achieve but has optimum impact. The right products are essential to keep this look perfect – you want that hair looking glossy all day long!

Consider your style of dress when thinking about this minimalist hair down style – if you have very long hair like Naomi and have lots of back detail on your dress, you don’t want to obscure it! But this also works on that very 90s bob style and that could show off a beautifully back really well.

When it comes to the make-up, it’s all about the shaped eyebrow and natural make up to suit your skin tone.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416415649{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

BIANCA JAGGER

This dark haired beauty was high fashion! Her long dark hair had a soft roll – feminine, sexy but so simple. For this look, we want to keep your hair shiny and voluminous with a side parting for serious feminine charm.

At her own wedding day in the 70s, Bianca perfected the no make-up, make-up look before it’s time and wore a hat, so don’t feel as though you have to stick to conventional wedding looks if you want to add some real personality. She was also known for a luscious lip and a heavy lashes. Think deep, sexy eyes and contour to give you cheekbones. Bad-ass elegance![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534417684819{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416440682{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

THE DUCHESS OF CAMBRIDGE, KATE MIDDLETON

Kate is the ultimate bridal icon! You can create her wedding look regardless of your hair type. If you’re blessed with luxurious, long locks then blow-drying and soft curls will be all you need. If you have thinner hair, you may need to consider adding some extensions for some extra bounce.

Pinned back the sides create the ‘demi-chignon’ for the most royal of wedding looks. If you want to channel your inner Kate but want to avoid copying her bridal look, she has so many looks she has worn since her wedding day that you’ll be sure to love! Chignons, half-up/half-down, ponytails and natural waves…dignified and graceful.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416468118{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]To create her make up look, keep your foundation dewy or matte with blusher creating a pop on the apples of your cheeks, for a rosy glow. A neutral eye shadow is ideal for the lid with a darker shade closer to the lash line, finished with a slight flick of eyeliner and black lashes.

Kate tends to stick with a natural lip and the royal tradition of Essie Ballet Slipper nails, so avoid anything too bold.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534417789868{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416510705{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

GRACE KELLY

Grace Kelly’s was one of the most famous brides of the 20th century and is one to be inspired by if you love vintage up-dos with soft, small curls and gentle volume. This is a style that can be created with any length of hair. If, however, you have shorter hair and don’t want an up-do, create a smooth, slicked back style with curls at the bottom for modern vintage.

Grace Kelly wasn’t known for her make-up, but this speaks volumes about the make-up she wore. Perfectly simple, there but almost not! Opt for a light coverage make up, keep it pale and fresh with a little blush. Go light on the eyeliner and avoid heavy eye shadow. One coat of mascara is all you’ll need and maybe a few individual lashes for definition in those wedding photos. Stick to a lip shade close to your natural colour and add lip liner to finish off the look.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418311400{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

SOPHIA LOREN

Who says brides can’t be sexy? If you want a sensual look for your wedding day, Sophia Loren is your bridal icon.

Her hair was voluptuous and sultry. Big barrel curls for a romantic, sexy bridal look. If you have short hair, add volume! Big and beautiful! Go for a big, bold cat-eye for ultimate sex appeal and long, long lashes. Draw all the attention to the eye and stick to a natural lip.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534417931614{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534416590610{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

RHIANNA

Rhianna may not have been your immediate thought when planning your wedding look but, there isn’t a signature look to emulate here, it’s an essence! Rihanna is bold when it comes to her style. She’s rocked long hair, short hair and every colour you can think of. If you want to keep your look modern, young and playful – consider her as your inspiration!

She’s definitely a believer in lip OR eye. Smokey eye versus a bold, bold lip! Don’t be afraid to experiment, you have time to trial your look before the big day.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][vc_column width=”1/2″][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418086849{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418395076{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]

MEGHAN MARKLE

We couldn’t discuss your bridal icon and not mention Meghan! Meghan’s gorgeous, shiny hair and ‘messy’ buns are exactly what you need on your wedding day. Keep some hair around the face to keep the look delicate and ‘undone’

Meghan’s make up look has evolved over the years, since becoming a royal she’s kept her look natural and neutral. She defines her eyes with mascara and keeps her skin glowy. She doesn’t make the make-up the focus and so if you’re not a big make-up wearer, follow her lead and keep it soft and delicate.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418207245{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Embed from Getty Images[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_cta h2=”Want to Sparkle Like Markle?” txt_align=”center” add_button=”bottom” btn_title=”Here’s How…” btn_size=”lg” btn_align=”center” btn_link=”url:http%3A%2F%2Fwww.weddingmakeupandhair.com%2F2018%2F05%2Fmeghan-markle-wedding%2F|||”][/vc_cta][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”2939″ img_size=”full”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text css=”.vc_custom_1534418289986{margin-top: 32px !important;margin-bottom: 32px !important;}”]Remember, you don’t have to stick to one bridal icon. Feel free to play around – mix and match! Find something about each one that you like and experiment. Become your own style icon!

Whichever look you opt for, it has to compliment YOU. Colours that work with your skin tone, hairstyles that suit your natural hair. Whilst you want to feel like a superstar on your wedding day, you also want to feel like yourself.

Think carefully about the style of wedding dress and make sure your hair and make up flatter your choice. If you’ve yet to decide on your dress, why not be inspired by your style icon? A theme can work well to give your whole look coherency. Start with the icon and let the rest of the wedding come from there. Be inspired. Experiment. But always feel happy with the choices you’re making, for you.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

Millie Mackintosh Bridal Hairstyle – DIY Wedding Hair How To Tutorial

When Millie tied the knot with her rapper fiancé Professor Green (real name Stephen Manderson) we knew that it would be a chic affair. The reality TV starlet who appeared on the hit show ‘Made in Chelsea’ is known for her effortless style, and never puts a foot wrong when it comes to fashion. She chose to walk down the aisle in a beautiful vintage wedding dress by Alice Temperley, but what really topped off her look was her ultra feminine plaited hair do.

Having seen the photos from Millie’s special day, we have put together a step by step guide so that you can have a go at recreating her wedding day hair yourself.

Get the look

Step 1:

Having washed your hair you can now add texture and volume to it by applying some mousse to your towel dried hair. Make sure that you work it through from the root to the tip before blow drying using a round brush.

Step 2:

Once your hair is dry you can now divide it down the middle for a centre parting, brushing so that both sections are nice and smooth.

Step 3:

Now, loosely plait each section and secure the finished plaints with clear hair bands.

Step 4:

Next, take one of the plaits and place it around the top of your head, fixing them in place with Kirby grips. Do exactly the same with the other plait making sure that none of the grips or the hair bands are visible.

Step 5:

You can now gently loosen each plait, putting extra grips in place if you need to. Finish off with some strong hold hairspray to make sure that the style stays in place all day.

REAL BRIDES August 2014 (some of them anyway! More to come. Watch this space…)

August is always one of my busiest months for brides, and this year was no exception! So chocka block with fabulous styles and AMAZING venues, it’s hard to know where to begin. In fact, there are so many excellent looks this month that I am going to break them up into two blogs! Here are a selection to get you started…

Julie went for a retro feel complete with her mum’s 1964 bridal headpiece! Julie bought some netting for £2.50 off eBay and at the last minute, I created her birdcage veil. Such fun!  Here she is, looking absolutely fantastic, posing on her Camden Lock penthouse apartment balcony.

Sarah went for a gorgeous half up half down do (with a little added volume on the crown!), whilst her bridesmaid had this wonderful, intricate braided bun. Perfect with their outfits! Just love them.
Sini also opted for the half up half down style (a popular choice for a reason!), with a fab, diamante hair accessory. Doesn’t she look great?!

I helped Lindsay to get ready for her big day, at Kensington Roof Gardens, by styling this beautiful low, curled bun with a mini beehive. I had some lovely comments from Lindsay about our time together: Hi Pam, I can’t thank you enough for everything. Sorry I got getting stressed at the end. My hair and make up was perfect and stayed perfect and I had so many compliments. I had the best day of my life.  It was a pleasure working with you, you was so calm and so helpful and most importantly you created a look that was beyond my expectations and for that I will be eternally grateful.Thank you!”

Roxy wore a chic high bun to show off her enviable dress, finished with antique lace. She looked fabulous and her ’round the world’ wedding cake was a stroke of genius!

Sarah also wore a gorgeous half up half down do, complete with tiara! Here she is with her mum and bridesmaid, ready to walk down the aisle in Chelsea.

Cordelia exuded Downton Abbey elegance at her wedding in Cain Manor, accompanied by her THREE pregnant bridesmaids! One baby was due in 4 days at the time…

I was lucky enough to style Katy Compton, an up & coming soprano singer! I just loved her floor length veil. Stunning!

So many more brides to come for August…watch this space! xxx

July 2014 Pam Wrigley’s REAL brides – hairstyle inspiration!

I think it’s safe to say that July was a little bit of a disappointment, weather wise, BUT that didn’t stop the beautiful weddings rolling in. My brides all looked fantastic – it’s always such a pleasure to work with such amazing people. I really do have the best job in the world…
Anyway, enough bragging from me :) let’s get onto what you REALLY want to see – July’s real brides!

Alison looked positively radiant for her wedding at Hedsor House, as did her gorgeous bridesmaids! Her elegant, down ‘do worked perfectly with her strapless gown and the braided up styles that her entourage went for completed Alison’s look perfectly as well!

Jan’s swept back style looked pretty amazing, matched with that fab, traditional jewellery, don’t you think? I just adore that headpiece she wore. Also, would you check out the tresses on her sister Meera?! Wow – It’s such fun working with hair like that. Glossy, full and with a bit of added sparkle!

Joo was lucky enough to have her big day celebrated at the idyllic setting of Nonsuch Park – what a wonderful place! Her curled up, chignon style with incorporated braiding and woven accessories to finish has got to be my favourite style I worked with this month – just perfect – and it looked wonderful with her veil fixed in too.

Nancy looked every inch the princess with her enviable, tumbling curls! Set off with that fab diamante hair band – you just can’t go wrong really. Truly beautiful :)

Tracy’s style suited her down to the ground and looked absolutely fantastic! A mix between a grecian up ‘do and a classic bridal style, finished with a flowing, mid length veil – this look worked for her so well and I am so happy to have been a part of this precious occasion.
Thank you to all my beautiful brides for making my job possible! xxx

June 2014 REAL brides xxx

You’re in for a treat this month! June introduced me to some of my most beautiful brides yet, with some really wonderful style choices to boot. Scroll through and take a look at this year’s first collection of blushing summer REAL brides for some inspiration on your own styling and a sneaky peek at what I’ve been getting up to…
Chloe went for a classic half up half down style with a little added volume at the crown for her wedding at Fulham Palace. I think this look worked so well with her absolutely stunning, lace trimmed dress and ended up having an almost retro feel to it.
Emma opted for flowing, feminine curls with a softening side parting and veil. Doesn’t she look fab?
Liz Harvey walked down the aisle in Taplow sporting a glamourous, curled up ‘do focusing around the nape of the neck for a really chic look. How amazing is her dress?!
A back view of Liz’s style, showing off the intricate detailing and vintage style accessory.

I also had the pleasure of working with Liz’s gorgeous Mother in Law!
Laura’s choice of a classic chignon bun NEVER goes out of style  and always looks great. Matched with that fab cage veil, she really was the belle of the ball!
Laura’s sister and chief bridesmaid chose to have her hair styled up into a mini beehive with a beautiful diamante clip and sections pulled out to the front for added softness.
I loved working with Maria Huse at her traditional Norweigan wedding! Wearing her hair down with a slight curl at the bottom, complete with a sparkling alice band was the perfect accompaniment to her turn of the century style, waist long veil.
Maria’s sister, Katrina, went for one of my favourites: a tumbling Grecian up ‘do! This was actually my style of the month for my online hairstyling course students to get to grips with.
Last but certainly not least we have Maria’s brother, who’s hair I didn’t style, but I just had to get a shot of him in that brilliant traditional Norweigan outfit!

May REAL Brides xxx

Weddings just get better and better as the weather gets warmer, with all the gorgeous outdoor venues, Grecian inspired gowns and generally, more relaxed styles when it comes to hair.

However, it doesn’t come without it’s downsides too – hot weather = flyaways and makeup that just WILL NOT stay put! But fortunately, for my lucky brides, I have all sorts of nifty tricks up my sleeve to prevent you getting too hot and bothered. It’s so important to me that your big day is everything you ever hoped and dreamed, so keep your eyes peeled for a new blog coming up with a few suggestions on how to enjoy this amazing weather and keep you looking great.

But for now, here is a selection of my May brides… they all look amazing!!

Sarah went for a fab half up half down do which was gently curled for added softness

Cindy looked totally glam with her fantastic headpiece sitting atop her feminine side pony

Nazan wore one of my favourite looks this month: a beautiful up ‘do complete with braiding detail and tiara!

Bonnie is getting ready for her big day, coming up soon! At her trial we decided on this stunning relaxed bun look.

Laura walked down the aisle at Nutfield Priory with this sophisticated, swept back chignon which worked brilliantly with her ‘on trend’ waist length veil.

Suzanne had her glorious wedding at Elvetham and really looked every inch the bridal princess with her curled half up half down do with veil and tiara!
